Edukate

By Abena The Village Girl

Edukate

Edu take

Edu cater

Edu's fate is now not later

Edu bait

Edu rate

Edu's late is near not never

Edu bathe

Edu plate

Edu ate it when? not dated

Edu's knowledge is unmated

Edu knows what ignorance hated

Edu feels he was born say-ved

Edu show case to enable

Edu's truth is labelled fable

Edu's soul picture pinn-acle

Edu's silence needs no license

Edu's freedom needs no speech

Edu feeds but doesnt eat

Edu leads but doesnt leech

Sigh

Everyday in class Edu sits quietly

His knowledge supreme but no ego to fire it

Eyes on the desk, classmates a pest

Edu sees this period as an unnecessary test

It gets tighter everyday grandma when will it burst?

When will mother land and whisk Edu back to Earth?

As he fathers his young and the smoke hits his lungs

He prays for his own that edu will not take

True Beauty

By Abena The Village Girl

True Beauty

True beauty is sad

Never bad

For her

Lies a state

Of tears of joy

Or tears of pain

For hers

Lies a task

Balance

For hers is the blissfulness of woman hood

Before motherhood

True beauty is too free

She imprisons herself

Appears divinely measured

Like time took its time for her creation

All want to abide with her

But step over her

Their selfishness an externality of themselves within

True beauty is simple

Natural is she

Imperfect perfection

For the mind of logic, no conception

For the mind of truth, no apprehension

True beauty is sad

True Beauty is me…

Natures Call

By Abena The Village Girl

Natures Call

hear me

silly you

dont cry

come and sit by my side

come and lay on my branch

kiss the neck of my wood

rub my bush with your touch

let me sprinkle u with honey

come and play in my hay

come and mould with my clay

come and feast on my yams

in my field

down to earth

come and sink in my soil

then rub with my oil

in my palms see our destiny

my leaves are medicinal

watch my mountain explode

see my rocks and my holes

mush, gush, us, hushhh

and shes seduced you

the serpent curls

she laughs heartily

lengthy locks dangling

this time no army

this time no brutality

the trumpets thunder

an announcing

the goddess she is fast arriving

and this time the rogues will not be in hiding

because when nature calls everyone comes.

PAN AFRICA

By Abena The Village Girl

Pan Africa

I vent.

I sit and wonder how long can we suffer in silence. Is this the easier way to suffer? Why? Because it's done collectively or on a mass scale? Yet largely ignored.  Anytime a people have to look outside of self to find a means of happiness, it is suffering. So why do so many shake at even the thought of its mention (pan-africanism), mostly our own people. We seem to be studied on various terms, theoretically and conceptually. Our ancestors laid the underlying principles of life coupled with universal laws of nature, yet as a solution to Africa's problems, when mentioned on its own terms one shakes. Or it can never be done, or you have to be in the system to change the system, why? If I don't like the way you operate I'm out. I know that may have many roads of objections, but if you don't like the way a factory operates you can’t change it, you either leave or stay. Some may spend their life working for promotion till they can be part of a leading managerial position, but then they will know change doesn't come easy, haha all that stuff bores me.

Back to this suffer matter, as long as I can remember when hearing about Africa's greatness coupled with its current state, its solution to me was easier than 'A, B,C'. We have to do our own thing. Please bear in mind when I say Africa, this includes those in the diaspora, blacks all over the world, growing up as a 'black british' myself. In fact when I mention Africa, it is a matter of nature, since Africa is in the centre of the world and produces majority of the world’s natural resources.  (Blah blah we all know this and) granted I am not the first to make such a proposal about us doing our own thing, but why then, why has it not been done? Are we happier to suffer, born into suffering then die suffering den abi we sufferers! State what you are, loud and proud, but we can't can we, because it not be so and we know it in our souls. Why is compliance good enough or deemed to be easier? One may say 'abeg look at all the atrocities our people don suffer, me im just happy for life'. But only if one looks at life as just the physical, separate from mental and spiritual. Why then are we younger generations being born and adopting the baggage of emotional stress, spiritual (not knowing who the hell we are or why we are here just to comply to a system that does not benefit us) mental,  what do we do next and where do we go from here, economical, financial etc. Why bother? Yet why becomes more important than prevalent situations when attached to the front of every as such. It's no longer why it’s what can and should be done, by each of us individually.

I throw the idea of 'easy' out of the water again, because although the solution has always been easy it has taken a lot for me to come to this practical step. Knowing and believing that through the knowledge I have gathered throughout my years, together with general life experiences, we are greater than what can be imagined. Indeed it’s that which most have dumped in the bin somewhere and yet even rubbish has to be collected, so dem dey carry the baggage 24/7 and my does it stink. We have to recycle and refresh ourselves just as the body does to survive everyday, incorporating our greatness, learning from our strengths and weaknesses.

There’s nothing special about me I cry, I laugh, I'm human, I feel emotional pain, I've carried it with me, it almost broke me down but self comes first and if I don't at some point in my life be good with myself then I will have to answer to self and that’s what I fear the most. Some will say it’s hard to be a great leader, it’s hard to run away from the system but na true that everybody go answer, whom to is relative. Abeg I think it’s high time that we look at the holistic content of a person, their heart and potential. For who will come after these leaders, they came, they tried but our turn will come also. Every wise man knows that life is a constant lesson for old, young, small, big as we learn from our elders they must learn from us also and I truly believe that the great answers, solutions and steps must involve the youth.

Therefore it is necessary for us to learn our true nature, true history, true ancestral heritage and what we can do to become a self-fulfilling people and truly help ourselves and our nation. We must have a chance. Many of our great leaders are not taught in our books and many of the youth are unaware of so many in recent times who put their lives on the line to help develop even just our minds.

I believe a new time is approaching where we must deal with ourselves to be the most balanced individuals we can be and learn from ourselves. Abeg no more time for focus on those who want to only point out flaws for in that case the whole system is flawed. This is a case for living truly with nature and becoming self-fulfilled individuals, who can build something for themselves, their children to come and really live life. May I just point out that this is not by force, this is for those individuals who have an interest in something more than just following man-made rules of life whether it’s to debate, share ideas, showcase talents, learn or just layback listen and enjoy. True pan-africanism focuses on nature, arts and craft, knowledge building, musical inspirations and self-development in summary. Let’s remember that what hinders one mainly is self so let’s all build from self, working and learning with each other.

I have vented.

Nothing

By Abena The Village Girl

Nothing

Nothing entails to loving

Non existence entails to persistence

The divine you seek not to find?

Yet the sublime you think you can define

Nothing is the freedom underpinning

It is language made material by human beings

It is an oasis in the dry humidity

It is the ignorance that gives rise to the bliss

The nothing supersedes something

It is a realm which we cannot just delve in

It is the unknown among scholars and intellectuals

It is we beyond our potentials

Nothing stands alone without two feet

Everything tries to capture it but it is too fluid

It is much greater than the sum and the every

It denotes the very thing it is defending

We make war because we cant comprehend

We put you down because our pride thinks it can fend

They just take but attach conditions to lend

The truth is a lie which they amend and amend

Why then,

Do the voices sound fellow yet have no language?

Why do the elders speak, yet the world hears silence?

Why does the forest dance, folktale rythms?

Why does a wise man think, but don’t say nothing.

Nature of Self

By Abena The Village Girl

Nature of Self

Sounds boring, if your touring but if u know self, then u know flesh is just da coverage, inside yourself there is a temple, inside your head, there is a pyramid, inside your mind a natural instinct, lets work together to discover, its just the idea, that makes you run for cover.

As a creative writer many of my works expand on this however it is my concept of nothingness i.e. 'The Philosophy of Nothing' which really puts self within a framework. Fascinating is that nothing, is what self has been deemed to in reality. It is not something that one can define and in this day and age it is rarely promoted. External ideas are always being pushed forth as that which can make one feel whole again.  But can you let go of all these things and still feel worthy? That is where I believe 'the strong survive' fit in. As complex an issue this may seem it begins through material detachments, which is hard enough for many, but when one then only has ones self to face and answer, it is there where the building of a strong yet flexible balanced individual comes into play. And it is this that one may spend the whole of their life working on, the true refreshing and restoration of self. It is not easy, but then life itself is not easier and it is more self-fulfilling to work on yourself than keeping up with the latest devices and pleasing others. You were born naked and unless you really believe that these things are of benefit to you when you die, how can one reject knowing oneself?

The conception I have of self, involves you, your family lineage, ancestors from the past and nature in general, there is a spiritual element from the trees, animals, water, the air we breathe as these all engage in the same earthly properties as we use to survive and these things have all stood the test of time. Therefore I give 'nothing' to it as they are taken for granted as nothing is, but we still understand that nothing exists as if not there would be no such word to define it.

In the first line of my 'Nothing' poem I state 'Nothing is the freedom underpinning'. This is because together with self I deem it to be the spiritual air which gives rise to the physical. This is anything from the way we interact, our general moods to the creation of buildings, landscapes, architecture, the visual display of art, the hearing of music and so on.  I see the world as a circle of 'everything' which includes 'somethings' and 'nothing' as the spiritual air outside and within it. Yet the amazing thing is 'nothing' has its own realm. A realm which nature-beings lived primarily on and with as the nature itself incorporates it and it is through this that amazing works were produced, as such everything was not inside a vacuum but rather a constant movement.

This is just a summary once again as a more in-depth article explaining 'The Philosophy of Nothing' will be produced. Yet anything which we experience factually in real life such as emotions, dream, thoughts, ideas, inspirations etc all belong to this realm. I studied a year for a Masters in Philosophy and I can say that the study of logic also indicates 'everything' to be within a box of some kind with a matrice assigned to all things- everything and somethings by use of an existential quantifier. Not to get to technical but throughout my lifetime of studies I have seen the idea of spirituality and 'nothingness' has always been excluded. It can be argued that the idea is highly controversial and since it is relative no facts can be assigned to it. But how can one study Philosophy at all then since it is this 'nothingness' that even allows for an idea or subject such as Philosophy and philosophy is supposed to study the nature of being, knowledge, reality etc. I have therefore brought about my own theory of 'nothingness' which I think cannot be ignored in this matter of self.

Lastly, nothing must exist, although it implies it doesn't exist, to prove that something doesn't exist you must first prove its existence and nothing cancels out nothing showing itself to be really 'no' thing.

HUMBLE

By Abena The Village Girl

Humble

Humble was the whore they called her, held her left her on the floor

Humble was the door when opened itself to reveal the moor

Humble was her pain, gathered belongings, overtook the shame

She left that night whilst all in death began a journey far from West

She remembered chilly summers, hands that held her breasts then shot her bullets,

Then her hands would grab his stick, she tried to break, but no pitch

Entry not forced, but always felt rippling,

Her eggs felt scrambled, her uterus a kitchen,

Men were babies always tugging at her nipples,

Her sweet nectar wasted, her honey never tasted

The darkness of the night she found accommodated her sight

No ports of air or ship, yet her path her mind equipped

Her buttocks round despite the pounds, her two lips stretched like Suri

She never understood beauty, she only knew of duty

Humble was the whore when she arrived this early morn,

Humble were the moors, they fed her clothed her then they fed her more

Humble was this place, the darkness reigned even through the scorching sun

Yet, this sun had no chills, a heaven hidden in the hills

FELA ANIKULAPO KUTI

By Abena The Village Girl

Fela

The most entertaining, amusing, down-to-earth, bold, mysterious, captivating, musical, instrumentalist that ever touched planet Earth. Fela Anikulapo Kuti 'the man that carries death in his pouch'. If you don't know get to know immediately.

Fela's existence on this Earth has changed my life for the better, musically and emotionally. One of the first tracks of Fela's that changed me was 'Ikoyi Blindness' the musical geniousity in that and all of his tracks actually made me a continuous listener and now I can't go back. 'Ikoyi Blindness' is a track about missing your path to destiny by taking a road which was not actually meant for you. i.e. A hairdresser sitting in the courtroom as a lawyer.

To be honest words cannot really describe this man and his music, others have tried even his own sons but nothing comes close to the unique and yet most down-to-earth man. Its hard to talk about Fela because he stood for so much but mostly he was ready to take his life for Africa and that is what makes him stand out from the rest. He lived as an African from the moment he became conscious of Africa's greatness. To be cont.d
